Brave’s spitfire of a princess – and the first Pixar character on the show – is coming to Once Upon a Time!

Introduced in the season premiere,  we’ll get to meet Merida (Amy Manson) in Camelot on the journey to find Merlin.

As for where Merida is at in her life, it’s set “some time after the events of the movie,” executive producer Adam Horowitz  says. “We’re going to give you a little taste of where she’s been since then, what’s happened to her since the end of that movie, and then we’re going to see that that somehow crosses with our people and with our Once Upon a Time mythology.”

Considering how short-lived the addition of Frozen characters Anna and Elsa were to Season 4, despite the mass amounts of hype, there’s a lot of speculation that Merida won’t be around for long. But it really does depend how she fits into the storyline.

We do know already that Merida is not Rumple’s (Robert Carlyle) mother. She is also not the as yet unborn child of Zelena (Rebecca Mader) and Robin Hood (Sean Maguire). “It’s just a fun theory, but the reality is we are sticking to the canon of the movie Brave in terms of who her parents are and where she came from, but post-movie is where our Once Upon a Time spin comes into play,” Horowitz says.

We also know that Belle and Merida are going to be BFFs and they’re off on some kind of adventure together. Find out more when Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, September 27th.
