The Lammily doll is called the “Normal” Barbie by a lot of people and what happens to most women? We get our periods.

The Lammily doll has the body of an average 19-year-old woman, and it comes with stickers to add zits, cellulite and stretch marks. It was created by artist Nickolay Lamm to give girls a fashion doll that didn’t give kids an unrealistic expectations of beauty.

“I feel like a lot of toys are all about fantasy, like we as adults, we love that as well,” Nickolay told E! News. “Reality is cool; after all, it’s all we have. Why not we appreciate it more? Even though it’s not perfect, it’s still beautiful.”

And while plenty of our mothers tried to tell us that menstruating is a beautiful part to womanhood, most of society still doesn’t portray it that way. The Curse. Aunt Flo. The Crimson Horror. Shark Week. Our period is still surrounded by taboos and jokes, instead of just being a perfectly normal, healthy part of being female.

So as the Lammily doll website says, ” Let’s start an open and positive conversation about our periods.”

Kids get the change to play AND learn because the $10 Period Party accessory pack comes with an educational pamphlet, along with a pair of underwear for your doll, 18 reusable colored pads, panty liner stickers, and a calendar with dot stickers to track your cycle.

“If a doll has pads, how can [menstruation] be taboo?” creator Nickolay Lamm said to Today. “Periods are such an integral part of a woman’s life, just a healthy part of it. It shouldn’t have to be swept under the rug.”

I love this quote from E Online about the Period Party accessory pack; “If half the planet is going through this, why is it that it’s seen as something you should hide?! Hopefully this next generation of women who are learning about their periods with this doll won’t feel the need to shamefully hide their tampons on the way to the office bathroom. Nay, this next generation will tuck that tampon behind their ear and strut through the halls to the bathroom!”They even have a commercial that’s pretty entertaining in all it’s awkwardness.
