Kate Winslet knows what it’s like to be bullied.

The 40-year-old star says kids made fun of how she looked growing up. Now that she’s a successful adult, the actress has a positive body image and made it her mission to help others have the same.

Daisy Chain is about a young girl who is bullied, but learns how to build herself up so that even her bullies can’t break her down.

The cool thing about Daisy Chain is that it came about because of bullying.

The five-minute short was inspired by writer/director Galvin Scott Davis’ 9-year-old son. He told his dad that another kid was picking on him at school.

Davis wanted to read his son a story about bullying to show that it would turn out okay but they didn’t have a book that fit. Instead he made up a story on the spot. A story that eventually became Daisy Chain.

It started as an App, then an illustrated book, character figurines and now a short film voiced by Kate Winslet!

“I contacted her agent and I didn’t think for one minute she would do it,” Davis said. “But she came back and said she would – and she recorded it in two takes.”

And as for his son and the bully?

Davis says, “The next day he called the bully over and he asked him to make a comic book together.”
