Two of Winnipeg’s most famous (and furriest) residents will be departing our city to make it big in Toronto! Hudson and Humphrey two of the nine polar bears who call Assiniboine Park Zoo home will be moving out of Journey To Churchill on October 11.

Brother Bears

While we consider these two bears as Winnipeg as a Sal’s Nip, BDI, or potholes, it’s important to remember that both of these bears originally came from Toronto. Hudson arrived in 2013 and was the first polar bear to cal Journey to Churchill home. Humphrey, Hudson’s little brother, arrived in Winnipeg in March 2015 and after spending some time by himself in the old bear exhibit to get acclimated to his new home joined his bro inside of Journey to Churchill. Humphrey is a little bit of a miracle bear since he was the only surviving cub of a litter of three and spent about six months at the Toronto Zoo’s polar bear conservation centre to get his strength and size up.

Don’t Despair

The good news is Humphrey and Hudson’s move could actually help polar bear populations as the two may be eligible to be part of a breeding program through the Toronto zoo which could help the future of their species. In the meantime, you can stop by the zoo before October 11 for one last visit with these beloved bears!
