The Weeknd is giving ‘I can’t feel my face’ a brand new meaning.

Fans couldn’t help but notice The Weeknd’s face covered in bandages throughout the 2020 American Music Awards – and there’s a reason for that.  Talking with Esquire towards the beginning of 2020, Abel explained, “‘Blinding Lights’ is about how you want to see someone at night, and you’re intoxicated, and you’re driving to this person and you’re just blinded by streetlights, but nothing could stop you from trying to go see that person, because you’re so lonely. I don’t want to ever promote drunk driving, but that’s what the dark undertone is.”

While appearing on Saturday Night Live (March) and at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (August), Abel rocked the same outfit – red suit jacket, bloodied and bruised face, black leather gloves, and a nose bandage.

Nominated for eight awards, Abel took home three and performed alongside Kenny G as he belted out the lyrics to both ‘In Your Eyes’ and Save Your Tears.’  So to your answer your question … The Weeknd is fine! He just has a really good makeup artist.

Abel also teamed up with VEVO to bring three, live performances.  Check out his live performance of ‘Alone Again’ below.
