Following Oprah’s interview with Harry and Meghan Markle, Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, has broken his silence and tells a Sky News reporter, “We are very much not a racist family.”  Prince William was then asked ‘if he had spoken to his brother following Oprah’s interview,’ and responded with, “No, I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will do.”

During Oprah’s sit-down, the former Duchess shared, “There were concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born.” Oprah then asked, “They were concerned that if he were too brown that that would be a problem?” Meghan responded, “I wasn’t able to follow up. If that’s the assumption you’re making…that would be a safe one.”

Later in the interview, Oprah spoke with Harry about the issue, asking which member of the royal family initially made the comment, “That conversation I’m never going to share.  It was awkward. I was a bit shocked,” Harry revealed.

Days after the interview, a statement was released by Buckingham Palace on the behalf of Queen Elizabeth.  The statement read:

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.  The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning,” the statement continued. “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.  Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Oprah also asked Harry if he could describe the relationship he has now with Prince William, “The relationship is space. Time heals all things, hopefully.  I love William to bits. He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together, but we are on different paths.”

The following day, Oprah appeared on CBS This Morning where she revealed that neither the Queen or Prince Phillip were part of the conversation regarding baby Archie’s skin colour.
