For the first time ever a boy is in a Barbie fauxmercial!

Now, because some people are always going to be horrible, there are definitely some detractors but I think one comment on YouTube really summed up why this is so wonderful; “This almost made me cry! I used to play with my sister’s Barbies and felt such shame afterward. I’m so glad we can just let kids be kids.”

Why am I saying fauxmercial? This isn’t a real commercial that you’ll be seeing on television, it’s actually being hosted on Italian Fashion house, Moschino’s YouTube page, not on Mattel’s.

Barbie has been a major inspiration for Italian fashion house Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott, whose entire spring/summer collection this year was inspired the doll. The eight-piece collection features a pencil skirt, bomber jacket and a whole lot of leather.

He has dressed superstars like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, but wanted to bring his label’s elements to Barbie. She’s dressed in the label’s standard slogan T-shirts and mesh knitwear, with plenty of golden accessories to boot.

She’s also sold out. The $150 Moschino Barbie sold out in less than an hour.

And the little boy in the commercial? A young Jeremy Scott look alike.

“I felt it was natural to have a little boy representing for all the little boys like myself who played with Barbies growing up,” Mr. Scott wrote in a statement. “Barbie was more than a toy, she was a muse for me.”
