RECALL: Cheerios Recalled Over Wheat Flour Concerns

General Mills is recalling 1.8 million boxes of gluten-free Cheerios cereal – original and honey nut-flavoured – because they may contain wheat.

The incident occurred when the facility lost rail service and the company’s gluten-free oat flour was being offloaded from rail cars to trucks for delivery, said Jim Murphy, president of the company’s cereal business, in a blog post on General Mills’ website. He said it was an isolated event and a result of human error.

The use of wheat flour means the cereals are not gluten-free, and people with conditions like wheat allergies or celiac disease who eat them could have an allergic reaction or suffer discomfort.

The cereal boxes have “better if used by” dates of July 2016 and the plant code “LD,” or specifically:
