I got more than a little fangirl excited when I heard Lorde was working with Disclosure, an English electronic music duo, and the finished track, ‘Magnets,’ did not disappoint.

The new music video stars Lorde as a seductive mistress cycling through a variety of magical outfits (from a White Witch-like gown to a shimmering full-body black leather trench coat) as her affair with a married man passes through parallel stages.

When Howard Lawrence of Disclosure talked about the song with EW he said, “When Lorde came in, I had this idea about writing about the phrase ‘the point of no return,’ and originally that was going to be the name of the song. We didn’t know how we were going to use that, because that can be used in a lot of different ways—flying, or boating or whatever. [Lorde] came up with the idea of using it in the sense of if you’re attracted to someone you shouldn’t be for moral reasons, and then you tell them, then you’ve gone past the point of no return.”

I think they did a pretty great job of telling that story with the video.

Here’s what Lorde had to say about the video on Tumblr: (LANGUAGE WARNING)

“the most important detail is the girlfriend’s black eye, when she’s by the window.. watch it with that moment in mind. that’s the point the whole video hinges on / takes it from being “an affair narrative” to being “dude’s girlfriend hired miss ella the hit girl to ‘seduce’ him then take him the FUCK out”

“Magnets” is just one of the high-profile collaborations with artists like The Weeknd and Sam Smith on Disclosure’s new album, Caracal.
