How Steven and Chris Met

We were all shocked to hear the news that Chris Hyndman, one half of CBC’s Steven and Chris, died Monday night. But now hearing the story of how they met is pretty interesting!

Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman first crossed paths in a Toronto bar in 1988, arguing over feminism. Hyndman “didn’t understand the whole thing” and Sabados was nervous, and kept dropping his lighter. The two, who both worked at CityTV, moved in together three months later; founded their design company, the Sabados Group, in 1992; in 2001 got their big break with the launch of the Designer Guys TV show; and were married in 2008.

A memorial has been set up in the atrium of the CBC’s Toronto broadcasting centre for anyone wanting to leave messages, mementos, or flowers to pay tribute to Chris Hyndman.
